The Marketing
“Market” for small to medium sized (SME) business is fragmented. You have Social Media specialist, print
specialist, copywriters, video specialist, SEO specialist and website specialist. Very few marketing advisors
actually offer holistic marketing campaign plans that can be measured. The Marketing Advisors that do offer
holistic marketing advice often require a budget out reach of an average SME.
There are many elements required to deliver a successful marketing
campaign. Some campaigns many not require certain marketing tools at all. The tool’s that any one marketing
campaign requires varies from industry to industry and segment to segment. Many small to medium sized
business owners are left to their own devices when developing a marketing campaign.
All business owners need to ask themselves what are the marketing
tools appropriate for my business, my industry, my clients and customers?
When you develop
your marketing campaign plan, consider the following three points. What I call the 3V’s of marketing.
Venue: Think of the word “Market”. What does
it actually mean? Well it’s a “public place” for buying and selling. More importantly it is a place where people
gather to communicate and exchange items of value. A market is a Venue where people gather. Ask yourself,
where are the venues that your clients and customers gather?
Value: What is the intrinsic
Value of your
product or service? What is the key benefit you hope to communicate and is it consistent with your
price?
Vehicle: After you have determined your
Venue and
Value, assign the appropriate
marketing Vehicle to communicate and transfer your message to your potential
buyers.
Once you have determined your Venues, Value and Vehicles you are on your way to
building a marketing campaign that is made to measure. Measuring your marketing is another topic all
together. Just remember, top line revenue is not the “Return on Investment” as some may have you
believe.
