Time Management for Business Owners
Understanding the immediacy and effect of your tasks is critical
for effective time management.
One tool which is available is the prioritisation matrix.
President Eisenhower has been attributed with developing and promoting the use of the prioritisation
matrix.
However to make the prioritisation matrix relevant for business
owners one critical dimension must be considered.
Watch the video for insights on how a prioritisation matrix
for business owners can be applied.
In
Summary;
1) Tasks with low effect on
building business value and low immediacy should be delegated where possible.
2) Tasks with low effect on
building business value and high immediacy can be scheduled and/or delegated.
3) Tasks with low immediacy
but high effect on building business value should be given priority and action
immediately.
4) Tasks with high
immediacy and high effect on business value should be given the appropriate focus of a business owner. In
particular if the task compliments the knowledge and skills of the business owner.
A key aspect of prioritisation is to understand the context. Each decision on prioritisation must be
considered in the context of customer engagement and the positive implications that flow from the customer's
perspective.
